Tee-hee

It's Friends List Appreciation Week!!!

(Well, for me it is, anyway.)

Because all of you are so awesome and amazing for having to put up with my daily histrionic babbling, I've decided to hold a Friends List Appreciation Week event here on my journal. Please comment with a request for one (or all) of the following:

-Name of a fandom, character and prompt, for a little ficlet written just for you;
-Question that you have been meaning to ask me but keep forgetting;
-Something that you have been meaning to tell me but haven't found the chance;
-A request for a good read, good listen, good show/movie, or good whatever;
-A nice compliment just for you!

There are no limits and no slots. This will be open for everyone on my friends list, for as long as it takes for everyone to participate if they would like! If I am unable to fill the ficlet request, you will be given a chance to make another request.

Okay! Go!

Dairine/Roshaun

[identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
(This one was a little tough, so it's short, but I hope it's still okay. It's in present-tense for some reason.)

The early mornings are the worst, Dairine finds, as she wakes up at dawn. When the sun peaks through the window and into her eyes, it's often a reminder that feels light a bright slap. Even the comfort of knowing the sun is still there is never enough to ease the pain, what was lost instead of what could have been lost.

He had driven her absolutely insane. His arrogance, his haughtiness, his chilly temper...

And yet, his life wasn't good. He was a hunted man. He had lost so much. His people hated him, resented him, despised him. It was no small wonder that he had built up a thick skin.

Dairine hates using the past-tense. It makes her heartsick. But it's been months and there has been no sign at all, nothing.

They hadn't been friends ... at least not quite. There was respect there, affection, trust. Near...the end ... there was something blooming into something close to friendship. Which makes it all the more unfair.

Her hand falls to her necklace, the stone cold within her palm. She closes her eyes.

She wishes she could have asked him. Just once.

Lol, that was awesome. I can easily picture Suki messing with him like that.

I loooove this silly ship. I find it so easy to write for some reason.

"I know I said this, but this is probably a bad idea."

Suki snorted. "Since when are you the pessimist? And besides, of course it's a good idea - it's mine."

They were hiding behind a wall, quite a distance away from Iroh's teashop. They were waiting, their eyes trained on the front door.

"This probably won't even work," Sokka went on. "And these stupid shoes hurt my feet!"

Suki rolled her eyes, though she had to privately admit that the thick, heavy wooden shoes were hurting her feet, too. "Just shush. Look! There she is! Shut up!"

He opened his mouth to protest, but she covered it, promptly shutting him up. Together with held breaths, they watched as Toph waved to Iroh and strutted out of the teashop, a wide grin on her face. In the other hand she held a paper bag stuffed with dough fritters.

As they watched, she walked towards them while whistling a tune - one that they both recognised as a very dirty and extremely offensive bar song. Both had to swallow their laughter.

The moment she was merely steps away, the two of them jumped out and started to shriek out, "GOTCHA!" However, before they were even able to get the word out, they found themselves on their asses, the stone ground beneath their feet shifted in order to trip them.

"How did you know?!" Sokka demanded, sounding extremely offended. "We were wearing wooden shoes!"

Toph blew her bangs out of her face, grinning. "Guys, I'm blind, she snorted. "But I'm not deaf."

"Told you it was a bad idea," Sokka sulked. Suki flicked his nose in reply. It probably was, but it was still pretty damned funny.

Heh heh, nice. Silly Katara, he was over there all along.

Thanks! The disappointments have mostly been my being unable to get a job, the latest lost opportunity being a page at the local library.

Aang/Mai/Suki: Trust, Part One

[identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It was strange.

This was Mai's first thought, as she awoke to a bright sun shining on her eyes. She felt very warm and very comfortable, and it was only when she woke up a bit more that she realised why. She sandwiched between Suki and Aang beneath a mountain of blankets, and even then there was still a faint winter chill in the air. Naked skin touched naked skin, and as Suki sighed into her shoulder, Mai found herself squishing closer to Aang in order to bury her cold nose into his neck. He shifted, but didn't wake up, and again Mai felt oddly warm.

Neither one of them anticipated anything like this happening. After all, they had started hanging out together from very unhappy circumstances. No one was quite ready for anything romantic at the moment.

Or so they had thought.

It had started, oddly, with a play.
xxx

It was Aang's idea. About a month or so after they had come together nursing broken hearts, it was mutually decided that they needed to do something fun and happy. It was pretty easy to agree to this, especially since they had spent most of those weeks moping and raging at their situations - not very productive, in the long run.

"Well," Suki said, looking weary. She, like Mai, didn't really like going out in public too much, due to being semi-famous and probably publicly known as the lesser of two women. "Where do you think we could go that would cheer us up?"

Mai shrugged, looking at her nails. They were growing back, but some of them were still crooked - not even layers of nailpolish could hide how badly they had been chewed. "I would prefer no where in the Fire Nation, if you don't mind."

Aang scrunched up his face, seeming to also be at a loss of where to go without too much trouble.

Then his eyes lit up and he smiled. "What about a play?"

"I said outside of the Fire Nation," Mai answered instantly.

"Not every play is held within the Fire Nation," Suki said.

"Every good play is."

"No no, come on, that's not fair," Aang broke in, giving her a look that spoke of being tired of that kind of talk. Mai smirked, unable to keep it in, and Suki scowled at her, suddenly getting that she had been teased and had risen to the bait. She loved doing that to both of them, but Suki was probably the most amusing, since she always reacted.

"There are good players in the Earth Kingdom, too," Aang was saying. "There's Kabuki. Is there still Kabuki? I liked it."

Suki blinked. "I think so. It's not as popular as it used to be, so there aren't as many shows, but we could probably find at least one crew somewhere that does it."

"Kabuki?" Mai echoed. "I've never heard of it."

"Really?" Suki wondered mildly. "And I thought you knew everything."

Well, Mai had deserved that, after all. She returned Suki's barb with a smile, and the younger woman smiled back.

"Well, you'll love it," Aang said confidently. "It's awesome. It has fighting, romance, action, and really great costumes and makeup!"

Mai was still looking at Suki, who had gone pink at this. She didn't really understand why (later she would, but not then). "Sounds fine to me," Mai said, shrugging. "But how do we find a place that does it?"

Aang looked thrilled, now that they had a plan. "We just ask."

I'm going to finish this fic - I just have to do some work! I plan on having three or four parts, not quite sure. But I will finish it! This one forces me to think, which is good, but it takes a bit longer.

I love them too. They'd just work together so well.

No problem! I enjoyed Part 1, especially the banter between Suki and Mai.

If you know of a good anime/cartoon show or movie, I'd love a rec!

As for a ficlet... Twelve Kingdoms, Youko and Rakushun, friendshippy?

[identity profile] urania-calliope.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
1) A Beast Wars/Animorphs crossover hopefully featuring Elfangor and Loren with a prompt of: Forever. :P

2) Do you like being an Eastside Canada girl? Do you think us Westsiders are weirs? (Oops, that might've been two)

3) Your twitter makes me laugh everyday.

4) The first couple of 'Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter' books. She's sexy, badass and loves stuffed penguins. If that's not your cup of tea check out John Wyndham, my all time favourite author. He's a British sci-fi author who penned 'Day of the Triffids', 'The Kraken Wakes' and 'The Midwich Cuckoos'. For someone writing in the 50s in England he's oddly progressive in his views of women and I absolutely classify him as a feminist. Hell, in one of his books I'm pretty sure he snuck in some lesbians.

Wee!

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Hummmm... I'd like a ficlet, but I really don't know what to ask. What are your current fandoms?

WITH THE TRUTH?!

[identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Right now, I'm still into ATLA, but also Slayers, Scrapped Princess, 12 Kingdoms and a bit of Wolf's Rain (but I don't think enough to write for it yet).

Aang/Mai/Suki: Trust, Part Two

[identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It turned out that there was only one troupe in the area that still played Kabuki, and it was close to the small city of Chin. Suki sighed; of course it was. Chin hadn't caused Kyoshi much trouble lately, but past performance was against them, especially when someone from the Island came by to do business. She was tired of the rivalry, especially since they seemed to adore Aang.

However, especially on the back of Appa, it was really easy to find the troupe in question. Despite Kabuki being relatively archaic nowadays, it still could draw a crowd, especially close to wintertime.

"It looks like they're about to put on another show!" Aang said excitedly, hanging off of Appa's head in a way that made Suki nervous, despite knowing that he was probably just fine.

Mai shut her eyes tight, looking paler than usual. It wasn’t a surprise to note that she had either a fear of flying or the very act of flying made her sick. She had looked this way several times over their longer trips upon the bison’s back, but so far she hadn’t lost her lunch. Suki had to admire that in her.

“Whatever,” Mai said weakly. “Can we just land this stupid thing so that I won’t vomit all over the place?”

“That’s a good idea,” Aang agreed cheerfully, her icy tone not fazing him one bit. It never seemed to, really – Mai’s gloom and pessimism never seemed to get under his skin like it sometimes did for Suki. Was it because he didn’t really care, or that he just figured it was how she was?

She herself had gotten used to it – mostly. But for Aang it never seemed to be a problem. She wished she knew his secret. She liked Mai, and wanted to get along with her better.

Aang steered Appa down to earth, and managed to land him in a place that was as unobtrusive as possible. Since it had been several years since the end of the war, most people were used to seeing the Avatar and his bison touring their skies, but even then, it was still a novelty. A crowd of people were already surrounding them as Appa’s giant feet touched the ground.

Unfortunately, Mai chose this time to stagger off and throw up.

Suki felt for her, really felt for her. Throwing up was the worst, but doing so in public was the worst of the worst. Aang was horrified, and Momo curled upon his head and shielded his eyes. Suki jumped down and joined the other woman, patting her on the back gently.

“You okay? You’ve probably held that in for months,” she said.

Mai looked up with a faint scowl, the colour returning to her cheeks, but the scowl didn’t last. She sighed, looking embarrassed. “Yeah, more like years,” she admitted.

“Are you okay?” Aang wondered, joining them and placing a hand on Mai’s shoulder. Suki then realized that his horror wasn’t from her being sick, but that she was sick at all.

“Yep,” Mai answered, her cheeks going pink, now. “Sorry.”

Aang offered her a kind smile. “Hey, it is okay. Look.” He waved around them, and they saw that the once stifling crowd had dispersed, properly disgusted and losing interest in the group. “Now it’ll be easy to get through the crowds.”

“You know,” Suki put in, “next time we get crowded, we could always pretend you’re about to puke on them.”

“Ha, ha,” Mai answered drily, but her eyes sparkled, and Suki could tell that she was grateful to both of them.

[identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
There's more coming - about two or three more parts. I'm sorry it's taking so long to write them - I just really have to think about what I want to write, because I want to get it right! Hope it's okay =3

Kyoshi - Animals

[identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Every Avatar before her seemed to show some sort of affinity for animal guides. The more she studied, the more Kyoshi realised that it seemed to be some sort of requirement for being the Avatar; without an animal guide, the Avatar seemed incomplete, as if part of them was missing.

But Kyoshi couldn't even think of such an idea for too long. For her, it wasn't possible for her to have an animal partner. She had already had one.

When she was younger, just into her teens, she had found a small infant cat-bird, one barely out of its baby feathers. She looked up and saw that there was a nest overhead, but from the looks of it, the mother and the remaining kits had already dismissed the fallen one as dead. Kyoshi scooped up the kit in her shirt and took it home.

Her father was surprised to see his only daughter come home with an animal in her hands. She hadn't shown much of a nurturing side before, but when he started to ask, her eyes filled with tears, and she snarled, "It's not dead yet!" He nodded, and watched as his dirt-covered tomboy carefully made a cradle of discarded rags within a small wooden box.

For weeks, the box was Kyoshi's prayer altar. She would crouch beside it, sometimes feeding the kit some warmed milk, other times holding it close while she changed the soiled bedding. For weeks she kept this vigil, until one day she looked into the box and found it empty. Panicked, she ran around looking for her kit, only to look up by chance and find it chirping meekly from one of the rafters overhead, looking terrified that it had managed to fly.

"Looks like your kit has become a cat-bird," her father said wryly, as Kyoshi danced in circles beneath it trying to lure it down.

She named the kit Pancake, after the only solid food that it - she - would eat. Pretty soon, the young cat-bird became quite at home within the small house, sleeping in Kyoshi's room while perched upon her bed's headboard, or joining her on her daily excursions into caves and abandoned mines, perched upon her shoulder with her sharp paw-claws.

For almost a year they were always together, Kyoshi and Pancake, Pancake and Kyoshi. It didn't take long for the locals of the village to get used to this strange site of girl and cat-bird.

But one day, Pancake suddenly jumped from her shoulder and leapt into the sky. With panic, Kyoshi reached out to grab her, but her hands were too slow. She caught sight of another cat-bird, with brighter colouring, and with a duet of purrs and meowing, the two birds flew off and out of sight.

It broke Kyoshi's heart.

"She was always wild," her father told her softly, as she wept within his arms. "She stayed for a bit, but her home was out there."

After that, she could never give her heart to another animal, and for a while she had trouble giving her heart to another person. How could she, when other hearts seemed so fickle when it came to her love?

She was the only Avatar in noted history to live her life without an animal partner.
