1. Mai ends up being a fucking fiendish fantastic politician. Why? Because she's given the choice to be one, instead of having it forced upon her. She knows people, knows how to keep a cool tongue, and knows when to keep quiet and when to speak out. She's also a perfect pillar/foil for Zuko, especially in his early years when he still hasn't gotten the hang of his temper yet. 2. She has guilt about Azula - especially when it becomes clear that Azula's rage isn't just rage but insanity. She usually keeps it to herself, like a personal burden that she has to carry, mostly because in the end, she really did choose Zuko over Azula - and she doesn't feel too right sharing it with him, even though he probably feels similar guilt. 3. She and Ty Lee were always close - and remain close all their lives. Out of everyone in the world, Ty Lee is the one who knows the most about Mai - though Zuko comes in at a close second. Ty Lee has seen - and heard - it all, and shares her silent grief over Azula. They are opposites, but they are eternal friends.
