You know, I've always been proud to be Canadian. I never make it a secret. I have loved Canada since I was small, even now, when I'm older and know better, know that this country isn't perfect.
But when I see the idiocy that occurs such as the idiocy of last night, I wonder what the fuck is wrong with this country and why anyone living with in it can be so fucking stupid.
Granted, the NDP's semi-victory is just that - a semi-victory. They have more seats than the Liberals now, and even the Green Party won a seat, which is a huge deal. But...I still have a sour taste in my mouth.
The Tories were voted non-confidence for a reason. Why the fuck would anyone in their right mind not only vote for them, but fucking vote to give them a majority?
Last night, I sat there and actually felt sad. Like, physically, tears-in-my-eyes sad. I have never given that much of a shit about an election before, but this time? This time meant something. And now all it means is that Canadians don't give a fuck about their own country. It means they don't give a fuck about women's rights, gay/lesbian rights, a proper justice system, and all of the good things that come with a government that isn't fucking Tory.
I have never, ever wanted to move from Canada before - until last night. I actually felt as if this country wasn't mine anymore. And no, it's not just because the "other guy" won - it's what that other guy fucking stands for.
Dear Canada, you are all fucking idiots. Congratulations. I hope you're happy.
