So ... are there any artists on my friends' list who would be interested in contributing to a free collection of stories? You wouldn't be paid, but your artwork would be out there, and it's a great opportunity (the whole publication is free, so no one is being paid =D). Please let me know. (I might contribute some drawings to it, even!)

Also, what do you guys think about publishing my original short stories on something like Blogspot or Wordpress? (Is there such a thing as a non-fanfic equivalent to ff.net?) That way, I can get my stuff out there for once, instead of sitting on it all the time.

I also plan on splitting my novel(s) into short stories in order to keep them smaller and easier to edit, write out follow. What do you guys think?

I like the idea alot! Im not sure there is a site that is like fanfiction.net but maybe you can create another website that hosts your original stories? im not sure how much if it does cost but maybe another site on livejournal too?? I would like to see more of your original stories too! Different chapters would be good too. Alas im not an artist but hopefully there is something else i can help you with??

You can get a free Wordpress blog, but many web hosts offer cheap hosting with good features like server space and your own domain. That way you could have stories on PDF that people could download (reading in blogs is kind of awkward to me, at least in my opinion)

There is fictionpress.com, which is managed by the same people as fanfiction.net (basically, ff.net split into two sites when they decided to separate the original fiction from the fanfiction). It works pretty much the same as ff.net, but it's all original works.

I also think that splitting your novels into short stories is a good way to break them into more manageable projects - and you can always expand on them later, right?

A good goal is for the average reader to be able to jump in without any previous introduction to the characters. Also, whenever it's time to select a title, short, evocative titles like "Wringer", "It", or "Discworld" are good. It's good for the title to symbolize the story and/or make people ask why it's called that.

I don't know much about sites for writers, but I do know this - make sure to get a copyright on your work before posting it. (http://www.writing-world.com/rights/copyright.shtml)and try not to publish online things you really want to get published as publishers shy away from those. Post things that might get people excited for your other bodies of work :D

I might want to participate depending how busy I am at the time... Hum... I might be changing jobs soon, so i'll have more time. I'll let you know tomorrow...

Chiming in with a few more details:

-You can commit as much or as little as you like--we'll be putting together a schedule so no one gets bogged down

-Since we're not paying you, we don't ask for exclusivity. However, if you could wait until the week after you image appears on our site to cross-post it, that would make us very happy

-I'll tell the author about Fiction Press. Thanks for that suggestion! She's also looking into getting her own URL

-Artists are encouraged to set up PayPal "tip jars" for us to publish with their work when it appears
