Still like Korra.

And yeah, I even was able to forgive Mako a little bit.

Aw, Mako is so much like me at that age, I can't help but forgive him ... without finding him or Bolin remotely interesting. (If Mako was a girl, I'd be all over that!)

AND three!

Personally, the kerfluffle about Bumi seems a bit much. I don't think that just because the character shares the name of a predecessor it automatically means they have that predecessor's personality. I personally think that Bumi senior managed to live long enough to spend a summer or two with Bumi junior and corrupted the hell out of him. Also I do think that Bumi loves to torment Tenzin and take him out of his comfort zones. And yes I got that all from barely twenty seconds of screen time.

Hey, whatever floats yours. I might watch the second season after a few episodes and reviews just out of morbid curiosity, but compared with the original ATLA, Korra was pretty underwhelming for me. And not just because of Mako.

Personally, I don't even think Mako's behavior would've been as irritating if he hadn't been presented as some sort of perfect Romeo. I mean, I love my flawed little bastards. But I only love them when their flaws are treated like flaws and they're called out on their shit and have to deal with the consequences. If they're being Jerkasses but passed off as Prince Charming, I'm more likely to want to throw rocks at the screen.

Same here. I'm holding out hope that he'll either be knocked down a million pegs, called out on his bullshit, or realize on his own that his actions weren't justified. He definitely owes Asami an apology. At this present moment I cannot stomach him, but we'll see what Season 2 brings. I think he's redeemable, but it's gonna take work. :/

See, I didn't think of him that way. I never saw him as being portrayed as the perfect love interest. If I recall, from the start, Korra remarks how much of a jerk he is, and only finds herself liking him when he shows genuine emotion for BoLin. In saying this, I'm not saying he's a perfect guy - he's actually barely a good guy - and if I had to pair Korra off with a firebender, I would have picked Iroh, but as I said below, I think when Asami was able to forgive him for being a complete douche, I was, too. I do also believe that the whole relationship was rushed and a little unreal, but... it was a short season. I dunno.

I don't want to come off as someone who thinks the series is perfect, but I don't think it's as horrible as it is portrayed.

I'm able to forgive Mako...when I just willfully forget most of what happened.:P

I'm a major Korrasami shipper these days <3

I think what happened with me the second time around was that I watched the very small scene between Mako and Asami, when they both admitted to caring about each other, still, despite it all. It was such a small scene, and easy to overlook, but it really touched me deeply. I think Mako is still a dumbass, and he treated Asami terribly, but I do think he ended up regretting it and even grew up a little.

We can definitely agree on the first thing. Beautiful series with awesome fight scenes, and heck, I liked Amon as a villain. And it brought us Asami, who is awesome.

Amon and Tarlok both are so interesting and, ultimately, so sad. It's definitely one of the things that the Avatar team can do well (in most cases), and that is fleshing out their villains.

But yeah, Mako needs some work.

I know! I'm sorry; I did think of you when posting this. I do agree that there are a lot of issues with the series, and I'm not hung up on the squee to ignore them. I do hope that the second season finds a way to make it more in depth, because as a stand alone, it isn't really able to just stand alone like it should.

Eh, no need to be sorry. Why should you apologize for something you enjoy? It just shows how interesting the LoK setting and characters are that the series has fans despite a story that went essentially nowhere. Republic City and its denizens really deserved better writing, and maybe that'll come with Book 2. I certainly hope so.

I still think Mako is way too much jerkass sexy love interest for my taste. But the show has other good things. Like all the other characters. and Naga.

You are correct on that one. I think that the forgiving factor for me was when both he and Asami were able to make peace - or at least a truce - before the big fight. I'm hoping that the second season will flesh him out a bit more, and make him into less of a lame trope.
