I can see that. I'd call it strange, but...when I'm making a peanut-butter and honey sandwich, but I'm low on honey, I use BBQ sauce instead.

I mean, if it's Sweet Baby Ray's, it goes well on anything.

So if you're in a pinch and substituting for jelly, anything with a similar consistency can work. I don't really like mayo, though.
