Appendicks

So, I'm sure most of you are aware by now what happened, but just in case, boy do I have a story for you.

Friday afternoon I decided to go to the walk-in where my family doctor resides and finally get a real answer to the pain problem once and for all. I couldn't deal with another week of not knowing and yet still being in agony over it, so that was my only course of action.

So, after much joking and waiting with Terry, I got to see her. She asked lots of questions, then poked around and hummed and hawwed...

And told me to get my ass to emerg, because I probably had appendicitis.

Honestly? I laughed in her face. Then I went pale. Then I said, "Oh shit, I owe my mom money."

Cue the emergency room dance. I had to go home and pack some things in case I ended up having surgery (durrhurr "in case") and then I had to stop eating and drinking for that reason as well.

Much of what I remember was I was shaking a lot, and I was hungry, and that people kept using their damned cellphones when they weren't supposed to. I got triaged by a nice nurse, then I got to the main room and was poked for an ungodly amount of time due to my cocktease veins and their avoidance with needles (I now have several holes up and down my arms that make me look like an addict).

Cue me waiting several hours after many tests, falling asleep in chairs, and then being proded some more, only to be told, "Time for a CATscan."

In which I was like, "WTF is a CATscan?"

In which I was told, "Get yet ass literally ready for it!"

Yeah. Look that up. I'm not bothering to tell you the details of it. Either way, in the prep for that (I got to ride in a wheelchair, weeee), they needed a new vein to puncture. Cue my arm getting stabbed and my gushing all over my favourite shirt, and as a result going into shock over it.

Yeah. So much fun.

I came back sure enough, and the test went smoothly, but damn.

Anyway, the Violating Test of Doom proved that I had appendicitis, and I needed surgery. I waited in the emergency prep area for all of the night, sleeping on and off, and in the morning they grabbed me and told me what the surgery was (and could end up being).

Now, cue me being terrified of this, guys. I've never had surgery ever. I've never been under anaesthetic before. So this was all new, and could be potentially fatal for me. I tried making jokes and keeping things light the whole time I was there, but Terry and Mom aren't stupid and knew that I was lying - especially when I would cry. So, yeah.

Turns out, it wasn't so bad. I got through it, and recovery was okay. Most of what happened is sort of blurry, but I remember being visited by Terry and Mom (my two constant rocks <3), Dad and Mary, and Jen (mistress_gwen). Pretty much what happened was they knocked me out, stuck a tube down my throat, cut me open three times, pulled out the offending organ, then sewed me up and got the tube out (cutting my lip in the process).

There were some very low points. I had to stay alone the night before at the hospital, and since I didn't have a private room, I had one horrible roommate that constantly woke me up every hour to take a piss or talk in her sleep or bitch loudly. Add that to some guy shouting "HELLO!" every five minutes and another guy praying loudly to Jesus to take his pain away and....yeah. Fun.

I woke up in AGONY yesterday morning. I panicked and they doped me up; I apparently had some air left in my system from the anaesthesia or whatever. I woke up fine today. I slept for most of yesterday and now I just hurt from muscle ache and my stitches and stuff. I plan on showering soon, if I feel up to it.

I spilled my apple juice everywhere. -.-;

Whatever, I'm home now. Yay?

Me and Tehlobster both had appendicitis scares in the last six weeks, so as I was reading this I was going, "No, she can't have it... they were overreacting in me and Lobster's case." But NOPE. Oh you poor thing. I'm glad surgery went well, though, even if your roommates were miserable.

I guess this means you get some time off of work after all? What a way to get it, though. Ick.

LOL I do! One week, maybe two depending on how I'm healing. I'm getting a ton of bruising so I don't know yet =X

I thought they were joking too. Honestly. I was like, "Hahaha, they're just going to tell me I have gas."

Then the emerg doctor came in.

"So, your appendix are inflamed. You do need surgery."

"...You're JOKING."

You dodged a bullet there. My next door neighbor had appendicitis but, because of her ludicrously high tolerance for pain, didn't realize it until after hers had burst and she passed out in her backyard from the resulting infection. (She turned out okay in the end.) I hope you're feeling better and doing okay.

Not a whole lot going on in the fandom, 'cept for more analysis and fanart of Korra.


FYI: I'm still working on that oneshot sequel to Siege of the South for you. It's coming along, if slowly. The working title is Dangerous Ladies.

The inflammation was pretty mild, but they said if they left it there was a chance of it exploding, so they didn't want to risk it. I'm glad I'm a wuss in this case =P.

You know it seems appendix stuff never happens in a forecasted/"Oh hey, this might happen to you soon" way XP Saire's mom was convinced it was just some gas when his went, I took him to the hospital against her judgment. Forever glad I did.

I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST GAS TOO, despite the pain and annoyance of it. I was 100% sure my family doctor was going to roll her eyes at me and tell me to stop eating gassy foods, but nope.

glad your getting better! i posted that i have a friend who just got her galbladder removed because of problems she had been having for years but she is doing much better now. just get plenty of rest and try not to worry about anything!^^

Damn. You are one tough girl. If it was me I probably would've started hyperventilating or something. Needles and I have never agreed, so I try not to even imagine a confrontation between me and surgery >.>

I'm sorry it had to be such a rough ride. But I'm glad your surgery went okay! And that you're healing up :). You didn't miss much, and I'm sure you're all caught up on the Korra stuff by now ;D

That came later, when they stabbed an artery and I went into shock, lol. I remember screaming really loudly, "I CAN'T SEE OR HEAR YOU AND I CAN'T BREATHE!" Fun times o.O;.

Oh my gosh! You poor thing! I've never had surgery either and just the thought of it... eep! I totally understand why you were kinda freaked out by it. But I'm so glad that it went ok! (The surgery at least, I guess less so when it came to jabbing you with needles DX )

Geez, that's scary.o_o I always get freaked out I have appendicitis when I get bad gas pains and I had friends who had it in the past so it always gets me paranoid. Heh. (There was something I learned about how the pain moves from one side to the other and that's how you can tell if you have it, but I never remember which side it starts at and which it goes to.xD;)

Glad you're okay. Just remember Korra - it makes everything better.;)
