You know, no matter how many times I watch Avatar over and over again, I always manage to forget about just how huge a dork Zuko is in the first season.

It's understandable, right? I mean, by the finale, Zuko is this badass who totally knows who he is. But Angry Ponytail Zuko? He has no fucking clue, and he's such a huge fucking dork about it.

I mean, okay, just look:

How does one establish that "big glowing light" equals "Avatar"? (granted, he was right, but still). In any case, he seems somewhat badass here, all SRS BZNS about moving on.

Until he has a temper tantrum.

*cue dramatic dork music*

He ALMOST makes it out of his dorkiness...

...no, spoke too soon.

So next he makes us think that he's all important and badass with his armour and whatnot.

And he makes a show of being a huge dick.

And just when we think he's actually starting to look a little like a real villain...

THIS happens...

Uh, yeah, so much for that...

And then he gets upped by a twelve-year-old.

I love how his men just watch.

Not once, mind you.

Not twice, either.

BUT THREE FUCKING TIMES.

FAIL.

And this is just from the first two episodes. If I were to make a whole post about his dorkery, I would run out of room!

I remember watching Avatar for the first time and thinking, this guy fails big time at being a villain. I hope they get a better bad guy.

AND THEY TOTALLY DID. (Azula) Then I ended up liking the former lame-ass villain the most by episode three. Haha.

He thinks he's bad at being good, but he's really worse at being bad. XD

Hahaha, he's even more of a dweeb as a good guy though. "Silver sandwich," anyone?

Gawww, Zuko and his infinite dorkery. ^_____^ Haha, he's definitely a dweeb throughout every episode in the first season. I think by the third, he's kind of come to realize the fact that he's dweeby? I dunno. It just makes it all the more funny. (Lolol "I don't hate you, too.") XDDD He'll never really stop being one.

Zuko: I had to leave my goth girlfriend behind.
Sokka: My first love died and turned into the moon before I could get any.
Zuko:...that's rough buddy.

Also, I bet he plays D&D with Sokka and Aang when no one is looking.

Meeeeeeeeeemories.

Hahaha this makes me think of how the advent of my love for Zuko was based 80% on the fact that my friend and I decided upon REWATCH that Zuko was, in fact, a total dweeb.

And this understanding OPENED UP HIS CHARACTER FOR US.

Oh Zuko.

You know, the first time I saw Zuko in Avatar, I had the sense that he would start out like an evil bastard but then would somehow get a huge life changing event that would make him have a change of heart.

I like characters like that because unlike other villains - namely Azula - they come to an understanding between what's right and what's wrong and then they feel remorse for what they've done. You can always pinpoint them from the others.
