I'VE TAGGED MY WHOLE GODDAMNED JOURNAL!!!

I forgot a tag for Harry Potter and Gilmore Girls, but damned if I'm going over this sludge pit of a journal again. Fuck.

Please note that a copy of this was originally sent to Jim Richards via the NewsTalk1010 website.

Mr Richards,

I have been a fan of your radio programme for as long as I can remember, ever since you were featured as a late-night host in the wee hours in the morning. I have always considered you a fair and honest newscaster, one who always offers the truth while wording it amusingly.

Thus, you can imagine my chagrin when I heard a soundbite of you stating that you were surprised at hearing about black people living in Winnipeg, and as far as you were concerned, that it was "breaking a stereotype". Comments like this paint you as ignorant, Mr Richards, and I feel embarrassed for NewsTalk1010, that they missed such a derogatory and false remark.

Black people have been living in Winnipeg since the 1800's, and were actually the ignored backbone into building the city. Despite the government's early attempts to rid them from their province (including taxing newcomers with a "Negro head-tax"), many black people still call Winnipeg home and can trace their roots much further into Canadian soil than you probably could.

I strongly recommend you educate yourself before you make such ignorant and foolish comments, no matter how off-handed they may seem. Your attempt at humour is not appreciated - it was hurtful and racist.

If real research is far too intimidating for you, I urge you to at least read "Some Great Thing" by Lawrence Hill, which is a novel speaking at great lengths about the history of black people in Manitoba.

Quite frankly, this is a dealbreaker for me. Whether it was a joke or not, I can no longer listen to your show due to such a comment. I urge you to retract your statement and educate yourself with some facts before ever commenting on the subject ever again.

Sincerely,
Tara L Blackmore

Okay. So as I'm sure you all could see, I cashed in my two cents about the now-infamous Gabaldon-foot-shooting incident.

I've read through a lot of different forums.

I've viewed it from both sides from different authors of all genres, whether I have read them or not.

And the final verdict is that I haven't changed my mind, at all. I still think fanfiction is harmless unless someone is trying to cash in on your ideas.

I respect that some authors request a fanfiction black-out, and fine - that is the exception. If you don't listen to the creator of your fanfic's source, you're a dick - end of story. If you're a creator that squicks over the thought of fanfic, you have ever right to request that people piss off and don't post their stuff.

But you don't have a right to publicly insult and castigate those who enjoy fanfiction, including reading it, writing it, or contributing to it. Or, correction: You have a right to say whatever you want to say about people who write fanfic, but don't be surprised if thousands of people decide to rip you several new assholes as a result. Free speech and all that.

I reacted in my post out of the anger I was feeling, and I don't regret that. I used strong language to convey how I felt, and that is that. Just like Gabaldon, I used harsh and mean wording to convey my point.

Personally? All this has done is stunt my writing, to be honest. I haven't been able to write anything since reading this whole kerfluffle. Pathetic, but true. I take things way too personally and when something I like gets attacked, I kind of take it...personally...and end up getting a block about it. Oh well.

So yeah. That's my last thought on it.

The truth about Indigo Books and Music )

Bottom Line: Indigo doesn't care for loyalty, customer or employee. All they care about is who shouts the loudest, who kisses the most ass, and how much they can get for all of the above.

For those of you who saw it publicly, yes, I protected that last entry.

For those of you who didn't, don't worry about it.

I AM tired of the bullshit. I DO NOT enjoy this kind of thing, especially when I keep thinking it's dead and buried. But posting something like that to public eyes would just make it worse, and who needs that?

I'm so done. I've decided to be an adult about things. It's not my problem if others won't be. I'm tired of being made to look like an asshole, but not fed up enough to make it true, even if it's to defend myself.

Things like this make me realise alot, though. If any of this has made any of you uncomfortable, or you don't want to choose sides, I respect that. You can unfriend me, and there will be no hard feelings. But in saying that, it would be nice to be defended once and a while, especially if I haven't even EARNED such harsh words or treatment.

It's funny, if you think about it. A person claims to be forgiving, and yet that person is completely unable to forgive. Why make that my problem?

Whatever.

It's so fascinating when you discover that your every word, serious or silly, is like fuel and fodder for someone else. To have such power over someone, to have them hang onto your every word, makes me feel strangely arrogant and wanting to say the most retarded shit ever just to see what happens!

Like this post!
